Serbia: Country Guide
After their separation from Montenegro in 2006, Serbia essentially put an end to the seemingly endless ethnic war of the prior decade. The country now looks toward a brighter future - one in which they hope tourism will play a vital role in stimulating their economy.
Belgrade, the country’s capital, will dazzle history buffs with its fascinating culturally and historically significant sites, streets blessed with centuries old architecture, and a classic palace designed in the Balkan style. The fact that any remnant of the city remains at all is quire remarkable given that it’s been destroyed more than three dozen times. A variety of museums embody the country’s war torn past through art, sculpture, and other intriguing educational exhibits.
Outside city limits, the scenery is no less diverse. In the south, mountains tower over vast plains cut by the meandering Danube River which winds its way through the beautiful, can’t-miss Vojvodina province in the north.
