Independent money-saving guide: which airlines fly where?

Australia: Country Guide
A premier destination for backpackers and travellers of all budgets, the bustling city centres and vast, beautiful open sprawl of Australia’s deserts and countryside guarantee something for everyone.
Tourists are almost obliged to visit world famous iconic landmarks such as the Sydney Opera House and Uluru. And backpackers will delight in the pulsing, non-stop nightlife of Perth, Melbourne and Sydney.
As the sixth largest country in the world, suffice to say there’s a lot of country to explore. Adventure seekers can dive the Great Barrier Reef – routinely voted among the top ten best dives in the entire world. And it almost goes without saying that the surfing is second to none.
Tourists can step out into Australia’s notorious outback to spot an array of wildlife species entirely unique to the country.
Finally, with thousands of miles of coastline on tap, head seaward to any number of Australia’s world class beaches.
Flight Guide > UK Flights > Flights from London > Flights from London to Australia
There are no direct flights from the UK to Australia because of the distance; i.e the plane needs to refuel en route! That may change in the future though with the next-generation of long-range aircraft forecast to be able to make the journey, (at least as far as Perth), on a single tank of gas.
For the time being though the most direct services are via SE Asia. BA/Qantas and Singapore Airlines all fly via Singapore and do the total flight in about 21-22 hours. Emirates do the journey via Dubai and this takes a little longer but is still one of the quicker options. We've included the most direct and therefore fastest options in our listings.
Otherwise there are any number of ways of getting to Oz. You have the choice of a whole host of competing airlines and you can fly either Eastbound via any number of Asian cities, (Bangkok, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo for example), or you can fly Westbound via the US -with Los Angeles being the most popular stop. Also note that most airlines will allow you to have a free stopover at these cities if you wish.
