Country guide

Within the eastern region of Arabia on a triangular piece of land stands the United Arab Emirates. Uniquely positioned as an essential link between Europe, India, Africa, and the Far East, only recently have tourism companies begun promoting the region as a “land of contrasts”.

Nowhere is this contrast more evident than in the astonishing city of Dubai (not to be confused with its parent state of the same name). It lures travellers the world over with an incomparable mix of traditional Middle Eastern religion and values with a hyper-modern, affluent cosmopolitanism found nowhere else on earth.

Sports buffs will revel in Dubai’s claim to fame as the unofficial “sports capital of the Middle East”. Outdoor enthusiasts will love the opportunities for four-wheel trekking through the deserts on its outskirts. Shoppers will be in heaven in the city's exclusive boutiques and high-end shops, while party-animals won't fail to be impressed with the very best bars and nightclubs to be found in the region.

The city is truly catered to tourism, with an endless playground of sites and activities for holiday-goers and with all this and more it’s no wonder the city has acquired the nickname ‘The Las Vegas of the Middle East’…

Burj Al Arab

The Burj Al Arab, (Tower of the Arabs), is 321m tall and is the tallest building used exclusively as a hotel. This '7-star' hotel was designed to to mimic the sail of a boat and stands on an artificial island 280 metres out from Jumeirah beach, and is connected to the mainland by a private curving bridge.
